Strong systems and tools enable managers to drive high-quality programming and accelerate staff growth. In this session, managers will engage deeply with updates to observation practices, including the program quality scorecard and revised skills trajectory, with a focus on how to use these tools to coach and develop their teams. The session will center on the challenge of internalizing these tools as a manager, moving beyond understanding to using them consistently to deliver targeted feedback, and hold staff accountable to growth. Managers will leave with greater clarity on how these tools connect, increased confidence in using them to guide coaching conversations and accountability observations, and concrete next steps for driving their team’s development.
Strong behavior management creates safe, consistent, and positive environments for all members. In this session, we will ground staff in BGCP’s Behavior Management Plan and highlight how its key components will show up across trainings throughout the week. We will focus on introducing our core philosophies and creating space for staff to reflect on where they feel most aligned and where they may have room to grow. Participants will leave with a shared foundation and a clearer mindset to carry into deeper skill-building sessions.
Strong systems and tools enable staff to deliver high-quality programming and drive continuous improvement. In this session, high school programming staff will deeply engage with updates to coaching and observation practices, including the program quality scorecard and revised skills trajectory. The focus will be on internalizing and integrating these new tools, moving beyond awareness to using them consistently and intentionally to make sense of feedback and guide growth. Staff will leave with greater confidence, a clear understanding of how these tools connect, and actionable next steps for applying them to strengthen their practice.
100% engagement ensures every student is actively focused and learning. In this practice-based session, participants will build and rehearse core classroom management moves, including clear “what to do” directions, strong radar to track participation, and least invasive interventions to redirect behavior. The session will tackle real classroom challenges, such as responding in the moment when students disengage while maintaining flow and consistency. Participants will leave with practical tools, stronger real-time decision-making, and the language needed to drive full engagement.
Clear, specific pitches help youth and families understand what a program offers, see why it matters to them, and decide to sign up. In this hands-on practice session, staff will prepare and deliver pitches for the programs they're recruiting for this school year. The focus will be on the real moment where pitching gets harder: getting specific instead of falling back on a general description, naming the impact a particular youth or family would actually care about, and keeping it short and clear when you have only a minute and the person isn't sure they're interested. Staff will leave with practical language and a clearer plan for talking about their programs in ways that move youth and families from interest to enrollment.
Effectively addressing Tier 1 behaviors helps staff maintain strong classroom culture, reduce disruptions, and maximize student engagement. In this practice-based session, staff will use the behavior management plan to learn and rehearse key strategies, including delivering clear verbal warnings and leading 1:1 restorative conversations. The focus will be on the moments that often feel most challenging—responding consistently in the moment, maintaining composure, and navigating student reactions with clarity and respect. Staff will leave with practical language, greater confidence, and a clear approach to addressing Tier 1 behaviors in real time.
Future Grads is expanding how we define postsecondary success. In this session, participants will be introduced to our new Postsecondary Pathways and learn how students can pursue a variety of options after high school, including bachelor's degrees, associate's degrees, career training programs, and military pathways. Participants will leave with a shared understanding of our new pathways framework and practical ways to guide students toward a postsecondary plan that is meaningful, realistic, and aligned to their future goals.
"The adolescent's search for identity often expresses itself in a temporary opposition to established authority." - Erik Erikson
Adolescencents naturally challenge authority as a way to develop their own sense of identity. In this session, we will reframe this behavior as a critical part of growth rather than defiance. We will also explore how healthy authority is a necessary part of supporting youth, and how it can be both responsive and warm while remaining clear and containing. We will examine key developmental tasks of adolescence and learn practical strategies for responding in ways that maintain connection, support autonomy, and help youth become more fully themselves.
This session will equip staff with the skills and confidence to accurately identify, document, and report member-related incidents and accidents. Participants will learn the purpose behind BGCP’s reporting protocols, walk through the required forms, and explore real-life scenarios to practice making strong documentation decisions. By the end of the session, staff will be better prepared to protect member safety, support caregiver communication, and uphold our organization's standards for accountability.
Clear performance goals help you focus your energy, track your growth, and connect your daily work to what BGCP is trying to achieve this year. In this working session, you'll learn this year's goal structure for the high school and post-secondary teams and draft your own performance goals that align with your site goals and BGCP's strategic priorities. The focus is on the part that's actually hard: turning a broad priority into a goal that's specific enough to act on and measure. You'll leave with at least one drafted, aligned goal in hand and a clearer approach to writing the rest.
